The intent of this blog is keep our friends and family up to date with our adoption process. So I will send the link to the blog to a selected few, and those who receive it should know us, introductions really shouldn't be necessary.
However, I'm not making the blog private so I thought I would dedicate a few lines about who we are, why we're blogging, and what I hope to accomplish by writing it.
Who are we?
To put it medically, we are "unexplainable infertility." To put it humanly, we are Mike and Amy, two thirty-somethings ready to expand our family beyond two dogs and a cat.
We are eager to be parents for a million reasons, none of which I can imagine are unique from anyone else's. For me, Amy, the reason can be summed up in the hugs I get from my niece and friend's children. Such a pure emotion can be felt there. That said, we have moments of fear and trepidation, I'm sure like anyone else.
Unlike some other couples, we began trying to have kids five years ago. Flash forward through lots of embarrassing medical treatments and here we sit, the first round of paperwork turned in to the adoption agency: Children's Home Society. We have met with our social worker, once, which I'll write more about in another post. We are on the edge, looking out toward the exciting unknown.
Why are we blogging?
Well, I use the word "we" in the Christmas card sense of the word. You know, where the wife signs both names and says the card came from "us." I will be the primary writer of this blog, but Mike might pop in from time to time.
We are blogging because so many of our caring friend and family want to know how the adoption process is going. They are as excited as we are to welcome our children into their lives. How better to do that than through the Internet? It's so personal and warm. (I didn't mention it earlier but I have dry sense of humor, which compliment's Mike's sense of sarcasm. Understanding that will help you navigate this virtual diary.)
What will this accomplish?
To put it simply, this blog will keep you current. Maybe it will also give some help, hope, or guidance to those couples starting out on round 1 of infertility treatments.
